Van de Velde has my vote

French Golfer Van de Velde is attempting to enter the
2006 British Women's Open.

He's got my vote, if for no other reason that to support his point.

A "rose is a rose" and a circus is a circus.

I read somewhere this last week that sports events
are becoming 'entertainment'.
Some theatre goers attend live theatre, just to watch if an actor or actress
will mess up.
And a multitude of viewers watch America's funniest videos and seem to laugh heartily when someone or something that could be a painful disaster strikes.

Is it true?
We'd rather see mistakes and disasters than talent.

Again, a circus is a circus and by any other name,
it would still be a circus.

What's the worst kind of win?

Ever been embarrased by winning?

Ever shot the game of your life to make the cut?
Some days you're simply in the 'zone' and the golf gods (all 4 of them)
are smiling upon you.

To conjure up the magic of that day, to re-create the amazing score,
it takes a lot of hard work, mental and physical preparation.

Either that or get drunk in the locker room and re-create the 'zone' alone. Confidence soars as you address the ball, but it feels more difficult
than a pilot's check list.
Then when you hit the worst shot of the day, turn to your playing group
and say, "I forgot to re-fuel."

If you drink, don't drive a car,
or a golf cart.

Have you ever been teamed up with the golf course sandbagger
and through no success of your own, the team wins?

Afraid that your golfing friends, and enemies, will call you a sandbagger?
It can happen.

Have you ever been paired with the club sandbagger and won a tournament?
Tell me your story.

As Summer fades

As summer in Southern Ontario fades, I'll miss the golfing season of 2005.

I'll miss the warm days, the low handicap, the successful putts, the fabulous eagles, birdies and even the missed bogey.

I won't miss the fungus on the greens.
I won't miss golfers who hockey stick their putts and claim one putt.
I won't miss golfers who chit chat while I'm hitting my tee shot,
though I should thank them - I thought I was going deaf.

As Summer fades I'll dream of a winter golfing vacation.

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving to all.
Drive safely and if you don't, yell fore!
